Product Groups

A better way to organize products.

What are Product Groups?

Products rarely have just one variation. For example, a t-shirt for a given brand might come in three different colors and three different sizes. In addition, product variants also share many common characteristics like their title, brand, category, description, and more. Product groups provide a way to efficiently create, organize, and manage all of these variants, along with their shared and unique characteristics, as one related unit.

Product Group Window

The Product Group Window is the primary location for managing product groups and their products.

To access the Product Group Window:

  1. Select the Products tab of the Navigator Window.

  2. Double-click a product group.

Quick Tips!

If the target icon is active, you can select a product group in the products tab to open the Product Group Window. Then, you can navigate using the arrow keys, and the window will update to match the selected product group.

Window Layout

The top half of the Product Group Window manages shared properties given to the products within that product group. These properties contain product information that all product variants share or inherit.

These include:

  • Brand: The manufacturer of the product.

  • Title: A clear description of your product. It does not need to include the brand name, as it will be added automatically. For example, if the brand is Champ and the title is Warrior Running Shoe, just put Warrior Running Shoe.

  • SEO Title: A more generic description of your product. For example, with a product titled Adidas Backwoods 55 Jogger, you might use an SEO Title like Trail Running Shoe. Often, your title and SEO title will be the same.

  • Item Names: The individual and plural item names for products like one box and multiple boxes.

  • Vendor: The primary vendor for the product group.

  • Type: Select between inventoried, for products, or non-inventoried, for services rendered.

  • Tax Code: Tax settings that apply to the products in the product group.

This includes all categories, attributes, keywords, pricing, and shipping details. Once a product group has been created, refer to the Edit Product Groups section for more details on updating it.

Product Views

List View displays all products in a group with detailed columns focusing on information related to product inventory and prices.

Filter Products

The Focus by Selection feature enables filtering of the products displayed. This is particularly useful when dealing with larger product groups, as it helps to reduce the number of displayed products and focus on the ones you are currently working with.

Focus by Selection When activated, selecting themes, visual and non-visual properties, and packs will filter products shown in the Product Group Window. You can toggle this feature on or off by clicking this icon.

Clear Selection Resets any selections of themes, visual or non-visual properties, or packs when using the focus by selection feature.

Product Group Status

The Product Group Status is a snapshot of the product group's overall health. If a red light is shown next to any of the entries, customers may be unable to see or purchase products in the group online.

  • Online Status: The overall activity status assigned to a product group. Toggling the status off switches the light to red, and the website displays the product as unavailable.

  • Categories: Each product group needs at least one assigned category before it appears on the website. Without a category, customers cannot view products from this group online.

  • Inventory: If any products in the product group have a zero inventory count, the indicator will be red. Customers can still see the product on the website, but it will be marked as unavailable.

  • Viewable: Indicates how many products in the product group are activated or deactivated and can be viewed on your website.

  • Purchasable: This shows how many products in the product group have been marked as unavailable in the Multi-edit Menu.

  • Images Missing: As the name suggests, this indicator notifies users about products without at least one assigned image and displays the number of missing images.

  • Pricing: Checks to ensure all products are priced in the product group.

  • Description: This refers to the product group's description, which appears on the product's page on your website.

Online Status Toggle

The Online Status toggle is located at the top right of the Product Group Window. Turning it off will hide the product group from customers browsing your website.

To change the online status:

  • Click the Activity Switch in the Product Group Window.

Inactive product group webpages are still accessible by direct link, but they display a notice stating they are unavailable.

Quick Tips!

You can also toggle the activity of a single product. For more information, check the Product Activity section.

Create a Product Group

To create a new product group:

  1. Open the Products tab in the Navigator Window.

  2. Choose More Options > New Product Group.

  3. Enter the requested details.

  4. Click the Add button or Press Return.

To delete a product group:
